Life @ Star TV
It’s been full 2 weeks since I have joined Star TV as a management Trainee. The salary is disappointing for a SPJIMR alumnus but the environment seems excellent.
The batch consists of 12 trainees (From SPJIMR, MICA, Symbiosis, Jamia. etc.). Out of the 12 interns, there are 9 girls and 3 boys. Yep, it’s an industry which is dominated by the fairer sex. And no one is complaining. Not me at least. Though I believe, at this stage of life, most of the girls are already committed or intent to get married by their parents wishes. So there is not much point getting into wooing any of them. So, for the better, I have decided to continue my MBA college strategy.
Life has been good otherwise too. The trainings are not hard. We are given lot of PPT over the days by various departments. I somehow developed a liking for the Strategic Planning and commercial department. They have an impressive array of work and I like it also. But as of now, I have to stay at the Ad sales for at least a year.
The salary may be less but I am sure they have planned big and good for us. One of the HR told us that they are looking for a good career path of us and hence are given training in all the departments instead of only one. So, I can safely assume that they are looking us to take cross functional roles over the period of time.
We were taken to the sets of the shooting of the best serial (soap) in the town, Bidaai. The trip was good. I have completed 10 days of extensive training on PPT’s. Now I am on the kind of learn it yourself training.
I am currently on the programming department. This department is responsible for all the content generation on the television. I have been asked to complete a cultural study of Bihar and Eastern UP. I have actually devised a 50 point framework (Will they include in any MBA curriculum) for completing this cultural study. Now I have to actually get into the working the content on the framework. The toughest time I have had is with the IT department. The Internet simply refuses to work. After taking some stern steps, hopefully it will start working now. And thanks to my bullying, the Internet for the whole floor is off now and everyone is taking a break.
And today is Pema’s birthday. She is an absolute sweetheart. She reminds me so much of Afzalina. But sadly, I think, even she is committed. Hard Luck, mate. L . Better luck next time.
