Star TV Experience

Life @ Star TV

It’s been full 2 weeks since I have joined Star TV as a management Trainee. The salary is disappointing for a SPJIMR alumnus but the environment seems excellent.
The batch consists of 12 trainees (From SPJIMR, MICA, Symbiosis, Jamia. etc.). Out of the 12 interns, there are 9 girls and 3 boys. Yep, it’s an industry which is dominated by the fairer sex. And no one is complaining. Not me at least. Though I believe, at this stage of life, most of the girls are already committed or intent to get married by their parents wishes. So there is not much point getting into wooing any of them. So, for the better, I have decided to continue my MBA college strategy.
Life has been good otherwise too. The trainings are not hard. We are given lot of PPT over the days by various departments. I somehow developed a liking for the Strategic Planning and commercial department. They have an impressive array of work and I like it also. But as of now, I have to stay at the Ad sales for at least a year.
The salary may be less but I am sure they have planned big and good for us. One of the HR told us that they are looking for a good career path of us and hence are given training in all the departments instead of only one. So, I can safely assume that they are looking us to take cross functional roles over the period of time.
We were taken to the sets of the shooting of the best serial (soap) in the town, Bidaai. The trip was good. I have completed 10 days of extensive training on PPT’s. Now I am on the kind of learn it yourself training.
I am currently on the programming department. This department is responsible for all the content generation on the television. I have been asked to complete a cultural study of Bihar and Eastern UP. I have actually devised a 50 point framework (Will they include in any MBA curriculum) for completing this cultural study. Now I have to actually get into the working the content on the framework. The toughest time I have had is with the IT department. The Internet simply refuses to work. After taking some stern steps, hopefully it will start working now. And thanks to my bullying, the Internet for the whole floor is off now and everyone is taking a break.
And today is Pema’s birthday. She is an absolute sweetheart. She reminds me so much of Afzalina. But sadly, I think, even she is committed. Hard Luck, mate. L . Better luck next time.

Gandhi Jayanti - 2nd October

Hey All,

I am here with my first post. The celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti started on 1st Ocotber evening only. After all we were getting a holiday on 2nd from office. "Kidnap" and "Drona" got released on 2nd. I was interested in watching Kidnap but again lack of company did me in. The review says the movie sucks but it does have "Minissha" in it. So there is something to watch for after all. And with all the crap movies these days "Kidnap" surely promised a lot.
The days started at 6.30 AM (Yep.. Yawn). Everyone got ready for a game of Cricket at the Symphony grounds on outer ring road. A nice place tucked in between Cisco and Syphony services. Game started at 7.30 and i managed a decent contribution with Bat and in field in both the games. We lost hell lot of time in finding out balls from shrubs, but the whole session was enjoyable. I need to work on my bowling. Still not comfortable with it.
Came back, had heavy breakfast and slept off for couple of hours. Every bit of the body was paining. what the hell, i enjoyed it.
Watched couple of movies on Gandhi Ji in evening and then went out looking for 400+ Litre Fridges. Man, things costs a bomb these days. U want a good fridge, shell out Rs 25K. Akshay Ji and his wife came in evening. The day was supposed to be a dry day but was lightened up by "Green Label". Alas, the bottle is over and mausi's threat of putting it in drain really dont exist now.
At 9, went to Mcdonald's to have some burgers. The tech park nearby has a great hang out place. Plenty of eating/drinking options there. While entering the park, saw in big bold letter words stating "Ernst & Young". ooh... Wow the consultancy giant is here. Went inside and people started ordering food.
Wait a minute, i see lot of people with their office badges and in formal attire. Seems surprising, after all i was in T-Shirt, Shorts and slippers. Look closly, oh my God, all of them from the same company. Ya u guessed it right, the Consultancy Major, "Ernst&Young". But wasnt this supposed to be a national holiday, that too 10 PM in night. Life can't screw you any better. Ya, these people have all the money. But do they have the time to spend it? Thanks God, I am not one of the employees there. GE zindabad!!!!
Also had a tiff off with the security officer at the eatery. Says you cant join the tables. Come on dude, you need not upset your customers over these silly issues. Get some CRM system installed to retain us.
We came back. Loaded with Burgers, French Fries, Potato Wedges and Cold Drinks. Man, too full. off to internet and then to sleep. And Ya Shweta Gulati ( Tia of Erstwhile Remix) has made an entry into Dill Mil Gaye. That should be an interesting watch.

Adieus,
Manish
